Apple’s New MacBook Pro Could Arrive This Week With an OLED Touchscreen

Apple could be preparing one of the biggest MacBook Pro upgrades in years, with new 14-inch and 16-inch models reportedly featuring OLED displays and touchscreen support. The redesigned laptops are expected to be a major highlight of the company’s upcoming “Pro and Tell” media event on October 28.

According to recent reports, Apple is preparing to introduce its first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, bringing a new way to interact with macOS while retaining the traditional keyboard and trackpad. Although Apple has not officially confirmed the specifications, the latest rumors suggest that the upcoming models could also feature a lighter design and a redesigned display.

Apple’s First MacBook Pro With an OLED Touchscreen

The most significant rumored upgrade is the move from mini-LED technology to OLED. OLED displays can deliver deeper blacks, richer contrast, and more vibrant colors, potentially improving the viewing experience for video editors, designers, photographers, and other creative professionals.

Adding touchscreen support would also mark a major change for the Mac lineup. Users could tap buttons, navigate menus, and interact directly with supported applications instead of relying exclusively on the trackpad or mouse. However, the touchscreen is not expected to replace traditional input methods. The keyboard and trackpad should remain central to the MacBook Pro experience, with touch serving as an additional option when it is convenient.

A Lighter Design and Dynamic Island

The new MacBook Pro models are also rumored to feature a thinner, lighter design. Apple has reportedly reworked the internal layout to reduce weight while maintaining the laptop’s premium construction and professional capabilities.

Another possible change is the replacement of the familiar display notch with a Dynamic Island-style interface similar to the one used on recent iPhones. If introduced, the feature could provide a more integrated way to display alerts, background activities, and system information. These changes would give the MacBook Pro a more modern appearance without necessarily requiring a complete redesign of its overall shape.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips Could Remain

Despite the expected display and design changes, the new high-end MacBook Pro models may continue using Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Reports suggest Apple could focus this update on the display, touchscreen experience, and chassis rather than introducing new high-end processors at the same time. If accurate, this would make the upcoming laptops primarily a design and usability upgrade rather than a major chip-generation transition.

Apple is also reportedly preparing a separate entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip. That model is expected to retain a more familiar design and display, distinguishing it from the higher-end OLED touchscreen versions.

Higher Prices Are Possible

The addition of OLED technology and touchscreen hardware could make the redesigned MacBook Pro more expensive than current models. Recent reports suggest that starting prices in the United States could increase by as much as $500, although Apple has not confirmed any pricing details. Buyers considering an upgrade may therefore need to weigh the benefits of the new display and design against a potentially higher price.

Apple could also continue selling existing MacBook Pro models alongside the new versions, giving customers a choice between established configurations and the more advanced touchscreen models.

When Will Apple Announce the New MacBook Pro?

Apple’s “Pro and Tell” media event is scheduled for October 28 in Los Angeles. The company has not publicly confirmed which products will be announced, but reports point to new MacBook Pro models alongside other Mac and iPad updates.

The OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro could be among the event’s biggest announcements. Availability may follow the announcement, although the exact release date has not been confirmed.
